Using Fiverr To Pay For The Wedding

by Mary on August 25, 2010

I’ve come up with an idea that might be a little different, but I think it might work.

I want to use the website fiverr to pay for my entire wedding.

Basically the website is a listing of all the things people will do for five dollars. I’ve known about it for a while and have looked around a few times when I needed a quick laugh. Last night I stumbled onto the site again and found myself thinking, “I could do that.” Some of the things people list are as simple as sending a postcard or calling and saying “I love you.” Others are more complicated and time consuming.

I got the bright idea last night to use fiverr to entirely pay for my wedding. I set the goal budget at $5,000 and with that budget in mind I’ll have to do slightly more than 1,000 things to pay for the wedding. I’m going to have a few standard option and then take requests and keep track of the progress on this blog.

This has become an option because earning money for the wedding has to be something extra.  Everything I’m currently making is going towards paying off my debt and living expenses. The wedding is extra and using fiverr for little tasks each day is something I figure I can do in my “extra” time. Plus, Kepa said he would help too. So between us we could knock out a thousand or so tasks easily. That is, if people were willing to pay for them.

I think I’m going to do this, but it’s still just an idea right now. I need some advice about whether it’s a good idea or not.

What do you think? Good idea or crazy? Silly or sane? What types of things would you suggest me adding to the list of things I’ll do for five dollars? Would you be willing to pay five dollars for something?

I have never heard of that before..hmm.. Good idea. No, I would not pay a random person to do random things for $5 but I know other ppl would. Maybe I should join.. Lol. I have no idea what you should say you’d do..id have to take more time and look at what other people do. Umm send them a smile? Dunno..

I’d be willing to pay $5 for a postcard from New Zealand!

I think that’s a great idea….I bet you could do advice on blogging with tips and such and other web stuff, plus maybe travel tips, as well as send a card, etc. I think that is awesome and would be really fun – and quite the story to tell about the wedding too. Be sure to list some of your $5 things on here so we can see if we are interested :) Good luck!

I think it is a fantastic idea. I will definitely pay for some $5 services.

That website sounds amazingly fun.

Haha. Sorry I think I’d have to charge more for that. :P

But you can find people on fiverr that do it that cheap!

That is definitely a fun idea. Man, I am totally tempted to steal this idea and see if I can make a few bucks for my own wedding. :)

What a great idea! I wonder if it’s actually that popular that people are making lots off of it.

Ooh, I collect coins from places I go and I’m sure others do too and would probably pay $5 for someone to send one each of the current NZ coins! I don’t know what the exchange rate there is (like that wouldn’t be worth it if it was Euro coins, since there’s one for 2E that is worth more than $2 alone, plus the other ones), but it might be something you could offer. I don’t know if I’d do it b/c I like them being from places I’ve been and NZ isn’t on that list yet, but it’s something you could try!

Hi. I found you guys through the Fiverr blog, and I must say, your story is really nice. I like your gigs, and if I was interested in any of those things, or had the money, I really would buy some, to help the wedding, and for my own stuff.
I own a Fiverr too, but I’m doing it as a failed Internet Entreprenuer. I’m 13 years old, and I’ve been learning Internet Marketing for three years. I failed numerous times because of lack of instant money, lack of patience, and lack of choosing the right topic.
I stumbled upon Fiverr a week ago through PC mag, and I have to say, it looked like Twitter! But, I started, I have my first gig in progress right now. Though, I must say, I’m doing a LOT more work than a lot of others are for $5. But, I’m pretty desperate to get a check in the mail (I have no idea if Paypal does checks) saying I earned $40! And, hopefully, it’ll be pretty short of a time before I get 10 gigs done.
Let’s journey together on the perilous track of Fiverr!

You could write articles for people that’s vaguely to do with weddings or relationships, or perhaps a craft you’re interested in, or another topic! Lots of websites need articles.

mary… did u ever think about a pot luck wedding??? maybe you can ask a few guests that instead of giving you wedding gifts, they would make a favorite dish of yours for the wedding that can feed X amount of people… just a thought… =)

We are going to do the reception and/or welcome picnic potluck style. But the wedding itself we are doing BBQ from Central. We both love it and pretty much every out of town guest we’ve already invited has asked about BBQ… it’s just necessary. But honestly doing it from Central is really affordable and that makes food one of the least expensive things (yet still freaking delicious!). And, well, we want wedding gifts. LOL

Mary,

I see your wedding blog alive and thriving. I often come here to read the conversations.
When you said you want the wedding gifts, I would like to suggest you make a wish list at Amazon. You will be pleasantly surprised when you see all the people you barely know buying you wedding gifts. Just my 2 cents..

That is such a sweet post. I happened to stumble across this blog today while browsing sites related to fiverr. If you ever need any wedding portraits for your wedding, I offer illustration services over at fiverr and will happily help you in that department ^^.
