I’ve never owned a quilt before. I’ve only slept under one a few times even though I remember my grandma owning several. When I was younger I wanted to make a quilt myself but gave up after several hours of cutting out squares of fabric. I also once spent a couple hours helping someone else finish up a quilt and left with my fingers in tired agony. Since then I haven’t given quilts much thought until recently.
Kyra, a fellow blogger and friend who made it to our wedding brought us an amazing gift: a new quilt she made especially for us!

Months before the wedding without my catching on she asked about my favorite colors and I told her purple (loooove) and blue. I had no idea what she was planning when she asked me or Kepa about my favorite colors. Who could have guessed she would spend the next several months making us a quilt?
Making us a quilt BY HAND, no less. Every time I look at the quilt I’m pretty amazed by that because I have an inkling of the time and effort that goes into making a quilt. The gift was a complete surprise but it turned out to be my favorite wedding present.
The colors are amazing. I love the fabric choices and how she put them together.
We brought the quilt back to New Zealand and as early as I could I placed it on our bed. I have to admit, just looking at it makes me feel cheerful. I absolutely love the colors and how it looks like it is glowing in the sunlight. It actually brightens the room our bed is in. It’s pretty magical looking.
Thank you so much Kyra for our lovely new quilt! It’s amazing! :)

That is one splendid quilt! I really does glow. Quite a gift of love to you!
And on the back of the quilt (you can see them more clearly), are stitched kowhaiwhai.
This is one of my favourite presents too :) I’m absolutely blown away by the time, effort, and detail. Thank you so much.
