Paper Wedding Flowers Update

by Mary on July 5, 2011

I finally got around to putting together a bridesmaid bouquet of paper flowers over the weekend. I’ve been avoiding the flowers for a while now but put one together minus the ribbon to wrap the bottom.

The only problem is, I can’t decide if I like them or not.

They are cute. Definitely cute. And it took a lot to make them. But I’m just not sure if I like them enough to use them.

By the way, the colors in these photos are WAY off. Somewhere between bad lighting and iphone photos and iphoto and flickr the colors were destroyed. They are more muted and much less pink in real life. I’ll take better, more accurate pictures later.

I can’t decide if I want to use them for the bouquets. Just can’t decide.

I do think they are super cute. And unique, which I love. And they’ve been made with lots of love. Plus they are very colorful and fun.

I guess my only thing would be whether or not they look to craft project. I put these bouquets together at 10 pm last night so it’s probably not my best work. I’m not sure if that is what is clouding my judgement or if I just don’t like the flowers because they look too crafty and less wedding. The wedding is already going to be a “tacky” love fest of epic proportions, so the flowers will get used somehow. Just not sure if I like them in the final product as a bouquet.

Thoughts?

Wow, that’s so cute! I’m envious b/c I suck at arts and crafts, heh. I thought the purple and blue were pretty nice, but then you said the colors are way off. I’ll have to wait for the new pictures to compare! How long did this take to make??

Well the blue is similar, the purples just look more red/pink on these photos than in real life. Purple is one of the hardest colors to show through photos I think.

I’m not sure how long the whole thing took because I worked on it in little bits over time.

They are cute and unique!

I know this sounds weird but what if you took photos of one of your bridesmaids or friends holding them from a few angles/distances?
That might make your mind up either way on if you love them or not! :)

I like them a lot!
I would say funky and individual – I’ve only seen the ones you’ve posted so I’m not sure what you are comparing them to.
I love the musical notes on the white paper. I would have quotes form my favourite books if they were mine hehe.
I would ask yourself a few questions maybe:
What were you hoping for?
Why did you decide to try these?
What are your other options?
Maybe this could help reaffirm (or confirm) that you do or don’t want to use them.

Maybe think about why you don’t like them. Are they too bright? If so, maybe some smaller white flowers in between the brighter ones. Maybe some green leaves will change it? Perhaps some bouquets should be all purple and white and some all blue and white? Because the flowers are so big you can’t really see the white. Maybe you should take out the white flowers and make smaller white flowers to go between the blue and purple? These are all just suggestions.

I have been trying to do my hair differently, with a new style. It is retro and I spend time making these pinned curls. I love that I am trying for once instead of just the pulled back pony tale look. I keep asking my family to give me feedback. Do they like it? My husband says yes, but then starts touching it, like it isn’t right. It makes me doubt myself and then in the end, I don’t know if I just look like a wannabe idiot. It is hard to have that confidence to just do something different and like it myself. I really just want the entire world (or atleast my world) to stand up and tell me how awesome I am. When really, I just need to tell myself I am awesome, that I did a good job with my hair and it is beautiful. I need to believe.

My point is that…do you need others to like it so you will believe?

Not really. I don’t really care what other people think about them. I just think out loud via blogging and right now I’m trying to decide how I feel about them. If you’ve ever created something you would understand that after a while being with it around all the time you start to hate it even if it’s wonderful. That’s sorta where I’m at because I’ve had these flowers hanging around for months.

I get how you’re feeling about them. But let someone who hasn’t been looking at them for months tell you: They’re adorable! Really really cute.

I like them — but I like the idea suggested in the comments above about getting one of your girls to try on her dress and shoes and hold the flowers outside at about the time of your ceremony — that will give you a full mental picture of how they’ll look. I think they’re insanely crafty and therefore completely unique and awesome. Such a cool idea!!

I love the bouquet! It is so unique and will add a fun personal touch to your wedding.

I’d turn them into lapel flowers to pin on the front of suits and the bridemaid dresses, and then have one bouquet of fresh flowers for yourself, you could always mingle the fresh flowers with the paper ones in the bouquet.

Just a thought.

I think they are gorgeous….maybe if you make them with longer stems and then mix some silk greenery in with them it will make them look much larger and more real! Could work out well…
Has anyone seen a pattern for large Magnolia paper flowers?

I am partial to real flowers but your paper flowers look fantastic! Especially the dark blue, they remind me of hydrangeas.
