Flower Decisions

by Mary on March 18, 2011

I’ve already made up my mind that we are having paper flowers.

That was an easy decision. They are cheaper, easy to control, able to keep the bouquets, and fun for me to make. Being the creative girl that I am it was a no brainer.

But I’ve reached a point where I need to make further decisions. Like what kind of flowers to make.

Remember the paper bouquet option I was working on before? The one with roses and other flowers? That’s one option.

The other is doing a different type of flower. It’s an origami flower that I just learned how to make. Here are my first attempts in the only colored paper I could find.

The thing with these flowers versus the other bouquet I was making is that I know exactly what they will end up looking like and what I can do with them. I would be flying as blind and I think they would be easier to execute. Here are some examples of final products I like from the Etsy shop Whether Paperworks:

Super cute, right? And I like that you can add in flowers made from book pages or even maps like the following flowers made on Folding Trees.

I really like the idea of including maps because I’m thinking a minor travel theme might get woven into the whole wedding. You know, because travel is essential to our relationship!

But I also like the other flowers I was making before I discovered these flowers. And now I just don’t know what I want to do. One kind of flower with variety in color and paper? Or different kinds of flowers altogether with different colors too? I can’t decide.

I do need to make a decision soon. I have a limited amount of time left in New Zealand and I would like to create the majority of the flowers while I am here and have plenty of free time. Once I get back to the states I will hopefully be working and busy with things so I won’t have time to create lots of flowers. I need to take advantage of this time that I have now which means I need to make a decision!

Any thoughts dear wedding planning friends?

How about making both types while sticking to your wedding color theme? Since it’s your day and you need to stand out, why not make your bouquet out of these origami flowers and your bridesmaids’ out of the first option (or the other way around)?

I think I’ll stand out being the one in the white dress in front of everyone. LOL

It’s an idea. I’ll think about it.

I made the kusudama flowers for my sister’s baby shower. They were part of the favor and the decorations. They made a huge impact; everyone loved them & wanted to know how I made them. But I’ll warn you. It took forever! I got so sick of looking at those things. lol Regardless, they’re beautiful & your day will be more special because you made them.

I love using maps to incorporate your travel theme! That is such a fantastic idea, and just a small nod to it. Perfect! Sounds wonderful!

I hated picking out flowers, I just am not the flower type girl, I didn’t know what a gerber daisy was! I just wanted color! LOL

Best of luck, I love the look and clean lines of the paper flowers! Well done!

Another lurker coming out for this one! I really like this origami flower, better than the previous . Having all the flowers the same style, but introducing variety in texture and color with different papers definitely looks lovely. Whatever your choice, I can’t wait to see progress photos as you keep working on them.
